Last Friday, June 5, the parties to the collective agreement reached a final agreement on the CAD-NU. The new CAD-NU will run from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021. An academic`s position on the salary scale (which is on page 80 of the OAC-NU) depends on his position, qualification and experience. The salaries shown in this article are pre-taxable. Dutch salaries are supplemented by a leave allowance of 8% (paid in May or June) and a year-end pension of 8.3% (paid in December). Income tax is high – 36.5%, or 52% – but foreign academics are often entitled to the 30% system, which allows them to collect the top 30 per cent of their salary tax-free. Approval of scientific research funding defines reciprocal commitments to staff recruited by institutions and funded by the Dutch Research Community (NWO, Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek). These are based on the collective agreements of the VSNU (for universities) and the NFU (for academic medical centres).
The one-time payment also applies to student assistants and on-call students who have a collective agreement subject to the collective agreement. One reason is that they suffer particularly from COVID 19 measures. UUT-flex workers receive the one-time payment based on the average number of hours worked during January, February and March 2020. Compensation and social benefits agreed with trade unions must be recorded in the collective agreement of Dutch universities. Other agreements have been reached on the redefinition of executive mobility agreements (OBPs), the introduction of the ombudsman position in all universities and the career prospects of young academics (WP). The amount of staff costs to be financed can be taken into account in the salary scales of the Dutch Association of Universities (Dutch abatement: VSNU). The salary scales were agreed in the “Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of Scientific Research” and are based on the collective agreement (Dutch abbreviated: CAD) of Dutch universities.
